 Studying in the European Union

Talking about the European Union (EU), one thinks almost immediately about the several rights we as European citizens receive. One of these rights is the right to study in any country of the EU we want to do so. Of course one could also simply study in one` s homeland, but studying somewhere else of it in the EU can have several advantages.

One advantage is the straight forwardness of studying in the EU. As already mentioned, one has the right of studying and traveling wherever one wants and whenever one wants. This means that one does not need a visa or any other complicated progress has to be done as preparation for one` s studies, one simply needs to be a citizen of the EU.

Another advantage is, especially in the case of Germany, that the “numerus clausus” for e. g. medicine studies can be circulated by studying somewhere else in the EU, e. g. in Hungary.

Another important point about studying in the EU is that by studying somewhere else, one may find an education system that suits one better than the one of the homeland. Universities with great traditions, e. g. in Denmark, Sweden or Finland, are known for their great education system, especially in Finland.

My last argument for studying in the EU is that studying in a foreign country is the best opportunity to learn a language. By studying something in a foreign country, one has to learn more about the language, and one has plenty of time to do so. Nothing is better for one` s vocabulary and the language skills but living in the country itself and on top of that studying there. It probably is the best opportunity to learn a foreign language since one is constantly confronted with it.

In conclusion, studying in the European Union has several advantages, wherever one is from. By being a citizen of the EU, it is probably the best opportunity to further one` s education. It is a challenge to study in a foreign country, but by taking this chance and managing to withstand it, one probably has the best chances in the world of work.
