Volunteering

The village where I live is called Mayrhof it is one of the smallest in our region. We have only around 300 inhabitants. It is in Upper Austria and not far from Schärding.

The main club in Mayrhof is the VLM. Projects we make out of this club are for example the litter collection, we split up in groups and the group which collects the most trash which was thrown in the environment gets free food. Also we have the “snow and fun” day where the whole village comes together and goes skiing or right to the bar. We go skiing on a small hill in our village and we don´t have a ski lift so a tractor with a trailer drives us back up to the top of the hill. Every year the VLM tries to organise a trip to another country or to a beautiful place in Austria.

With our neighbour village only 2km away from us, we have a Youth club. We organise a few different events over the year. Our biggest event is a party after Christmas. We also have a lot small events for example for the mother´s day every mother gets a rose or for the day of the Saint Nicholas one of us dresses up like him and brings the kids small gifts.

We don´t have a fire station in our village because in the neighbour villages are around 4 different fire station close to us. If someone wants to be a fire fighter he can join any of them. For the kids they have a special curs where they learn what it is about to be a fire fighter.

For the sporty people is also something to do, because not far from us is a fitness centre, soccer club for men and also women, a tennis club, a natural swimming pond and also a public pool.

We have a music school with an orchestra which organises every year a musical. We also have a choir. It has nothing to do with the church it is only there for young people which like to sing.

Because we are so small everybody feels connect with the village and nearly everyone is a member in at least one club.
